Damian Seeto - Don't Educate Me in response to A Book and a Pen and Kidnapped

Where did my life go?
All I learn is the history of Egypt and War
Why not about the history of my people?
Why not about the history of my land?

Where did my life go?
All I learn reading and writing
What about learning to catch fish?
What about learning to feed my people?

Where did my life go?
All I learn is numbers and calculations
Why not about learning to build my own shelter?
Why not about learning to care for my family?

Where did my life go?
All I learn is typing on a computer
Why not about being self sufficient?
Why not about taking care of myself?

Where did my life go?
All I learn about is a pale God
What about stories from my own people?
Why is this ignored?

A pen and a paper are overrated
The pale people force me to learn things I don't want to
When I finish, all I am greeted with is a fancy piece of paper
All I wanted to do is be with my people and taking care of my family

  1. A great start Damien :)

I'm quite interested in the idea of 'modernising indigeneity' i.e. can you not use the 'modern' computer learning to help your: people, family, self etc.?

So, maintaining traditional cultural values in a modern, global world etc. via modern things e.g. internet

What do you think about that?
